CEDAS Member Spotlight: Michael Freimuth, Executive Director, Capital Region Development Authority

  1. What does the term economic development mean to you?  It’s the art of creating wealth in a community (be it jobs/income; value appreciation; grand list growth); giving a place the ability to meet the needs of its citizens.
  2. What is an average day like for you? Chaos
  3. What is your proudest accomplishment?  Structuring one of the largest and most successful TIF districts in the south end of Stamford and launching the market rate housing program in downtown Hartford…building a ballpark in Bridgeport was fun too.
  4. What is your next goal?  Retirement in Key West
  5. What do you want to tell us about CRDA?  It’s a mechanic, not an architect. We are not planners per se, rather we implement and carry out projects and programs.
  6. Are you Dunks or Starbucks? Starbucks
  7. If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?  Cell phone tower and solar power.
