Main Street Waterbury to Celebrate First Year
3/4/2005
Edible Art Show and Fundraiser Planned
Main Street Waterbury will be celebrating the completion of their first year of operations by holding an edible art show fundraiser. The event is entitled “Eat Your Art Out” and will be held at the Palace Theater on March 10 from 5:30-7:30.
Main Street has invited approximately 15 Chefs from Waterbury and area restaurants to offer an edible art sculpture. Their entries will be judged after which patrons will have the opportunity to sample the various creations. The Celebrity judges include Mayor Michael J. Jarjura, Carole Peck from the Good News Cafe in Woodbury, and Marianne Vandenburgh from House on the Hill Bed & Breakfast in Waterbury.
Board member Donna Gentilozzi is the Fundraising Chair and event organizer for Main Street Waterbury. She along with volunteer event planner Cyndi Sutherland are the Co-Chairs of this event. Sutherland who is also a partner with the company “In Any Event” says, “We’re labeling this as a “Sumptuous Event”. This promises to be a fun evening and we’re very pleased thus far with the response from not only the participating Chefs but also people interested in attending.”
Carl Rosa Executive Director of Main Street Waterbury states, “In addition to sampling these delectable creations, patrons will have a chance to listen to live entertainment and mingle with friends. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our local chefs and restaurants as well as provide another reason to get people into Downtown Waterbury. It’s also a way for people to show their support for all of the great accomplishments that Main Street has made in our downtown revitalization efforts. We are a 501c3 organization and this event gives us the opportunity to raise critical funds for our operations.”
The Main Street approach to downtown revitalization is dependent on community volunteers, grass roots initiatives and is based on the following four points: Design, Organization, Promotion, and Economic Restructuring.
Tickets for the event are $35. They can be purchased at Space Age Copy on Bank Street, John Bale Book Company on Grand Street, Holiday Inn Express on Union Street, Café Europa at Exchange Place, The Palace Theater on East Main Street and Good News Café in Woodbury.
