1000 Friends of Connecticut Seeks Executive Director

Position: Executive Director
Reports to: 1000 Friends of CT’s Executive Committee with regular liaison through President
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of 1000 Friends of Connecticut, a statewide citizens’ organization working to promote Smart Growth land use policies and practices.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage all day-to-day business activities of a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, working closely with the Board President as necessary.
- Recruit, hire and supervise staff, interns, volunteers, contractors and consultants.
- Serve as primary spokesperson for the organization. Manage media and public relations.
- Work in coalitions with a wide array of organizations, municipalities and business associations.
- Develop and sustain a statewide grassroots organizing program.
- Prepare and implement annual budgets.
- Manage and develop annual fundraising plan and work with the Executive Committee, Fundraising Committee and others to implement the plan.
- Coordinate ongoing strategic planning and organizational development.
- Supervise legislative and lobbying activities, including development of a 501(c)(4) organizational arm.
Qualifications:
- Degree in public policy, land use planning, or related field. Comparable work experience in lieu of a degree will be given consideration.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: public policy, lobbying, or grassroots organizing.
- 3-5 years experience in an executive director or comparable position.
- Demonstrated staff management experience
- Demonstrated fundraising experience in major donor cultivation, grant writing, and/or direct mail solicitations.
- Exceptional communications skills, both written and oral.
- Political savvy and the ability to build and maintain coalitions.
- Computer literate.
- Ability to travel to events and meetings statewide.
