New Haven Seeks Director of Traffic and Parking

NATURE OF WORK
This is a highly responsible administrative and professional traffic engineering position. Work involves the oversight and management of the Department of Traffic and Parking. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Economic Development Administrator with much latitude for the exercise of independent professional judgment.
Position is appointed by the Mayor for a four year term. This position is nearing the end of the first year of the term.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Makes suitable rules and regulations in regard to the Department and the conduct of its business. Is responsible for all aspects of traffic safety and control including: Traffic planning and analysis on City and private development applications; installation and maintenance of traffic control devices, signals, and markers; parking planning; meter distribution, operation and revenue collection; public transportation planning; and other aspects related to the safe and convenient use of the transportation facilities in the City of New Haven.
Presents results of traffic studies and projects to review agencies and boards; ability to “think on your feet” in public forums is a plus. Good oral and written communication skills. Computer knowledge is necessary
Serves as the City’s main traffic engineer; serves on the New Haven Parking Authority Board. Performs related work as required.
REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
Applicant should have graduated from a four year college in the field of civil/traffic/transportation engineering or transportation or other urban planning with a preference for a graduate degree in a similar field. Applicant should have at least 5 years managerial experience. P.E. Registration preferred.
SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENT
Residency in the City of New Haven is required within six months of appointment.
