Startup Weekend Hartford Debuts September 23

9/2/2011

Business people, software developers and marketing specialists are expected to be among the dozens of entrepreneurs who will attempt to turn an idea into a business model during the inaugural Startup Weekend Hartford on September 23, 24 and 25 at the Hartford Public Library at 500 Main Street in Hartford.

“This is a dynamic, fast-paced weekend that fosters innovation and entrepreneurship in an environment where business, technology and creativity meet to accomplish one goal: launch a start-up,” explained Nicholas Bereza, one of the organizers of Startup Weekend Hartford.

While this is the first Startup Weekend to be held in Connecticut, there have been several on the East Coast since the event began four years ago. Bereza, who is the co-founder of NE Computer Solutions in Bloomfield, recently attended Startup Weekend in Boston. Startup Weekends have been held in more than 100 cities in over 30 countries.

Startup Weekend Hartford is being organized by the MetroHartford Alliance's Hartford Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs and is being presented by premiere sponsor Connecticut Light & Power Company (CL&P) and Yankee Gas. “We are excited to be partnering with CL&P and Yankee Gas on this new venture. Hartford is the ideal location for Connecticut’s first Startup Weekend because of its strategic location in Southern New England. We expect to attract attendees from all our neighboring states along with many of the entrepreneurs who live in Connecticut,” said John Shemo, Vice Ppresident and Director of Economic Development for the MetroHartford Alliance.

Entrepreneurs, inventors, software developers, graphic designers, and business owners are encouraged to attend. Registration is $75 through August 23 and $99 afterwards. Students are $49. Seating is limited.
