The Downtown Willimantic Experience

On October 6th  CT Main Street Center and CEDAS hosted “The Downtown Willimantic Experience." Over 40 attendees spent a beautiful sunny autumn afternoon touring downtown Willimantic and learning how this historic downtown has been revitalized.

James Bellano, Director of Economic Development was joined by Andrew Gutt, local entrepreneur and restaurateur as they presented all that Willimantic has to offer. Senator Mae Flexer and Representative Susan Johnson explained different state and federal assistance that Willimantic has utilized over the last several years to undergo necessary streetscape improvements, and several art galleries, restaurants, and shops stayed open for attendees to visit.  At the end of the tour, attendees were treated to cocktails and appetizers in the downtown’s new “pop up” restaurant spaces.

Willimantic has leveraged their assets and created a funky, hip downtown that is vibrant and filled with treasures – from a  historic post office turned brewery, to a movable feast restaurant space, to a frog topped bridge, Willimantic is proof of what can happened when the community comes together to revitalize their downtown.
