A Look at a Successful Historic Preservation Project in Unionville, CT

For 20 years the historic ball bearing mill, The Upson Nut Company, located in the heart of Unionville Center and along the Farmington River, sat vacant collecting blight liens. Restoration work began in 2013 to develop the buildings for commercial and residential use. Shops, galleries, and business offices are now located in the 1860 mill building bringing vitality and economic growth to Unionville Center.

Since I came on board in January of 2015, Berlin has seen small but not always visible changes. The ones you can see, such as the construction of the new Acura dealership across from the new PetSmart, are very noticeable due to their locations on the Berlin Turnpike. But, there are other happenings that are not as obvious. Just in the past 9 months, three new restaurants have opened their doors on Farmington Avenue alone.

CTfastrak Ridership Remains Strong: Ridership throughout the Corridor Continues to Grow

The Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) is pleased to announce that ridership on CTfastrak is showing significant year-over-year growth. According to data provided by the Connecticut Department of Transportation, in November of 2016, on an average weekday, there were 10,573 trips taken on CTfastrak buses. Compared to the November 2015 figure of 9,394 trips, ridership has grown by over 12%.
