CEDAS Annual Meeting and NEDA Holiday Party Review

At the 2010 Annual Meeting and Holiday Party, CEDAS celebrated its 48th year at the Whinstone Tavern in New Britain along with the Northeast Economic Development Association. The meeting was a review of the accomplishments for the year and the installation of new officers for 2011. The meeting also recognized members that have made outstanding contributions to CEDAS and the economic development field.

Stream Flow Regulations

UPDATE: the Regs Review Committee unanimously ruled to reject without prejudice these regulations. CEDAS members should communicate with their legislators to encourage the regulations review committee to vote against the proposed stream flow regulations. These regulations could have further limit Connecticut's ability to grow its economy. The legislature’s Regulations Review Committee is voting on the state Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) proposed stream flow regulations on October 26 and we should urging rejection.

Investment Plan: Bill Lets Manufacturers Put Savings Back Into Firms

Hugh F. McCann Jr. and a team of area manufacturers are hoping to start a national movement. McCann is president of Identification Products Corp. of Bridgeport and the impetus behind a federal bill that would allow manufacturers to save up to $250,000 a year in what would be called a manufacturing reinvestment account at community banks.

Dear Commissioner McDonald, I am writing to you today representing the CT Economic Development Association (CEDAS), which is the largest trade group of economic development professionals in CT. The letter is in regards to HB 5383; “An Act Concerning Regional Economic Development.” I am writing to request a reduction or change in the threshold required for DECD support of Economic Development Districts (EDDs) as outlined in your 5/17/2010 memo.
